Obituary

VIOLET MARIE (SCHULTZ) WEGNER

Violet was born on March 11, 1930 in a log cabin on the farm of her father, Ernest Henry Schultz, and his wife, the former Anna Jendrny, a few miles west of Butternut, WI.  She was surrounded by eight siblings, Ernest Jr., Donald, Lorraine, Evelyn, William, Elaine, Arlene, and Merlin.  Ernest Jr. died in WWII and is buried near Paris, France, in Epinal Cemetery.  Donald, Lorraine, Evelyn and William are also deceased.

Violet attended a country school until the third grade, and then continued in the Butternut, WI schools until High School graduation in 1947.  She grew up on the family farm near Butternut, and helped her father with milking the cows and other farm chores.   She married Harold Wegner on November 6, 1948, and they were blessed with three sons, Laird, William and John.

"Vi" worked for seven years as a secretary for the Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance headquarters in Minneapolis.  She attended a seminar on researching family history which spurred her to investigate and publish three family histories and write her own life story.  She also sponsored multiple family reunions for the Schultz and Wegner families.  Vi taught Sunday School for many years.  During her time at Family of Christ Lutheran church she also recruited and ran a telephone Prayer Chain of some twenty or more women, taught a weekday Women's Bible class and organized the Prime Timers.

Violet is survived by her husband Harold, sons, Laird (Barbara), William (Paulette) and John (Jennifer).  She is also survived by seven grandchildren, and spouses, and fourteen great-grandchildren.  Her passing followed declining health in recent years.  While the family was singing hymns to her at Maranatha Care Center, in Brooklyn Center, where she has resided for several years, she closed her eyes, and her soul went to be with Jesus.

Funeral service Monday (1/20/2020) 10:30 am at Family of Christ Lutheran Church, 16345 Polk Street NE, Ham Lake.  Visitation 1 hour prior to service at the church.  Interment Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids.  Arrangements entrusted to Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Andover, MN, 763-767-7373
