Obituary

Stewart Smith, "Papa", "Stewie", 72, died surrounded by his wife and kids on August 13, 2021.

Stew was born on November 9 th , 1948, in Crookston, MN to Norris and Marion Smith. He grew up in Nielsville, MN for most of his life and graduated from Climax Public Schools in 1966. That is where he met his wife, Una Rae (Thune) and they married on June 28, 1969.  Stew worked as a CNC machinist for more than 40 years for BOSCH.  His pleasures were first and foremost his wife, Una Rae and his entire family; enjoying many summers at the family cabin in Gonvick, MN.  He was thrilled at the arrival of each of his grandkids, and deeply enjoyed the years of dance, band and choir recitals and sports games that they all participated in as they grew up. He was a passionate Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan and will also be remembered for his love of nature and tending his yard for the pleasure of all, including the birds and wildlife.

Stew is survived in death by his wife of 52 years, Una Rae, his three kids and their spouses, Nathan Smith and Deb Zurcher, Anna and Corey Johnson, Paul and Katie Smith; 12 grandkids, Lillie (Sam), Sawyer, Emma, Carter (Mimi), Devon, Kyle, Taylor, Brandon, Bailey (Laura), Connor, Kylie, Abby. His brothers, Mark (Joc) and Tim Smith and many other cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother and father.
