Olson (Ring), Shirley Anne age 82, of Coon Rapids, died peacefully Saturday, May 2, at Unity Hospital, Fridley. She was born, January 30, 1927 in St. Cloud, MN to William George and Beatrice Alice Ring. She graduated from Staples High School and attended Nursing School at the College of St. Catherine before marrying John Olson. While raising her children, she worked as a cook for Anoka-Hennepin School District and then completed her nursing degree at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Lakeridge Nursing Home, Shoreview for many years. She dedicated her life to her family and service to others, volunteering as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, coordinating rides for Seniors with medical needs, driving cancer patients for the American Cancer Society, organizing and driving for Meals On Wheels, and working in the office of the New Folk Collective. She was a member and president of Anoka Philolectian. She was a very active member of First Congregational Church of Anoka, where she played many roles. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, John; and son-in-law, Bob Nielsen. She is survived by children, Douglas (Mary), Eric (Pat), Gordon, Cheri (Grant) Riemer; and daughter- like person, Sue Peters; grandchildren, Aaron (Patty), Jennifer, Paul, Neil, John; and granddaughter like person, Amy Peters; sisters, Marge (Bob), and Alice (Jim) Blake; several sisters and brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial service Wednesday, 11 AM with visitation 1 hour prior at the First Congregational Church of Anoka, 1923 3rd Ave So. Evening Visitation Tuesday, 5-8 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, West Main St. & Branch Ave., Anoka. Private inurnment Hillside Cemetery.
