Obituary

Flynn, Seamus P. age 48 of Mpls.  He will be deeply missed by adoring wife, Tammy Swenson Flynn; "Daddies little fur baby" Jenga; parents, Mike and Casey; siblings, Brendan (Megan), Daynia (Brett), Coley, McKenna (Lance) and Brittagh (Patrick); nephews, Riley, Kieran, Wyatt and Quinn; mother-in-law, Kay; sister-in-law, Brenda (Paul); and hundreds of other family and friends.

Seamus was born to Mike and Casey Flynn on June 1, 1972.  Because it was a difficult birth, Mike wasn't allowed in the delivery room.  He took a walk around the hospital and ended up in front of the nursery.  Mike's eyes became fixated on a large baby boy.  He just couldn't take his eyes off that baby and knew in his heart that it was his son.  Sure enough, a nurse confirmed it was his son, Seamus Patrick Flynn.  The first of six children to bless Mike and Casey.

Seamus came to this Earth brimming of joy and he left this Earth in the same manner.  Seamus spent his school years (K-8) at St Marks Catholic School in St Paul. Attempted a year at Hill Murray, but it just wasn't his style.  He transferred to St Paul Central High School where he was able to pursue his love of music and graduated in 1990.

Seamus had a strong passion for music, even as a child, using his parent's record player as his favorite "toy".  That never changed, as evidenced by our large vinyl collection. His joy and excitement when sharing that music is legendary.  Anyone who has ever attended any gathering where there was a turntable, will agree. Seamus always knew what people wanted to hear, whether they knew it or not and before they knew it or not.

Seamus was also a natural performer. He started with performing solo guitar "concerts" to his 5 younger siblings and their friends.  This lead him to performing in several bands (Loom, Tent, Groovy B Movie, Bitchalittle & more) and solo at many venues in the metro area including; 7th St Entry, Fine Line Music Cafe, Mayslacks, 400 bar, Uptown Bar, Grumpys, Art-a-Whirl (and many others that I am forgetting at the moment) as well as several weddings of family and friends. Outside of Seamus's music talent, he was a good cook, he grilled up great food and that earned him the title "Captain Steak". He was clearly an artisan and visionary of the grill, it wasn't just food he made...it was art.

On June 19, 1997, Seamus met Tammy at a mutual friends band (The Joint Chiefs) performance.  That evening, he invited her to see him perform the next week with Groovy B Movie at 7th St Entry. She attended that show. Although it sounds cliche', it was the beginning of an amazing relationship. He proposed to her on her 30th Birthday, in what was hoped to be "grand fashion". Tammy was going to go skydiving that day but the weather was not optimal and no skydiving was permitted that day.  Although Tammy couldn't jump out of a plane, it didn't stop Seamus from getting down on one knee and it didn't stop Tammy from taking the "plunge into engagement" with him...Nothing could. Tammy and Seamus happily married on June 19, 2004 (7 years to the day of their first meeting), and the term "Shammy and Teamus" was born.  Tammy considered her marriage to Seamus one of her greatest accomplishments.

Shammy and Teamus built a wonderful life together.  Full of puppy licks, love, laughter, family, friends, global travel, and music. At the center of it all was music.  Seamus was a human encyclopedia of anything music-related.  In any given circumstance, Seamus was always quick with a quote from a TV show or movie that applied perfectly to the situation. Not only the quote, but he'd often act out an entire scene.

Seamus' care for others showed in a sincere way that he would always ask how you were doing and wanting to make sure everyone was alright.  Seamus was so optimistic and enthusiastic that it was like he left a part of his amazing self inside others.  He left people feeling happy when he spoke to them.

Seamus's humble demeanor made people feel calm and relaxed.

Seamus was always ready to jump into playing games or playing music or just talk to the ones he loved.  He had a playful personality and was adventurous. He was always ready for a good time.

No one is perfect but Seamus could make you see the light in yourself.  He could make you feel good about yourself. He was the person that would stop and listen to whatever was troubling you and be there to understand and support you the best he could. He had an open and pure heart, and that is a true gift.   All of us that knew and loved him so dearly, have some pretty big shoes to fill.  I know this is his wish for us.

Even in his passing, he was a giver. He was able to help others by being a donor.

There will be a small private, invite-only service in the coming days (stupid pandemic).

Seamusfest 2021 is already set in motion, provided the pandemic will be under control by June 2021.  There will be lots of music, lots of people, lots of laughter, lots of story sharing and lots of love.  A big celebration that is much more worthy of Seamus's big life.

The service for Seamus will be live-streamed.  Please visit www.perkinsmediagroup.com/flynn
