Holmes, Russell Lee, age 86, of Anoka. Russ was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Owatonna, Mn. Graduated from Owatonna High School in 1947. Went into the United States Marine Corp and served in the Korean War where he was also a DI (Drill Instructor). Russ Married Donna Knaak on March 22, 1952; they were married 62 years before Donna passed away May 2, 2014. Russ worked as a meat cutter when he first came into Anoka at the Red and White. He then went into the Insurance business where he worked at the First National Bank in Anoka for many years, until he bought that business and opened his own. He then sold his business and worked for Loretz-Johnson Agency in Anoka. Russ was also an Anoka Volunteer Fireman for 36 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the annual trip out to Kenmare, ND. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 102. Russ is preceded in death by wife, Donna; and parents, Thelma and Walter. Survived by sons, Jon (Kathy), Dave (Lanelle) and Nick (Jennifer); daughter, Jeanne (Mark) Roeder; grandchildren, Kayla (Jeff) Biegler, Derek (Kelsey), Devin, Travis, Laura, Samantha, and Hunter; great-grandsons, Carson Jon Holmes and Maddox Russell Biegler; many, many friends. Funeral service Saturday (3-5-2016) 4 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Ave., Anoka. Visitation 2 hour prior to service. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
