Obituary

Robert J. Werner age 90 of Anoka was born December 11, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After surviving COVID-19, Robert's body became more tired and weak. Although he did not want to leave his family, he started his journey to his eternal father on January 21, 2021. Robert always said he had the greatest childhood and was proud to say he grew up in Northeast Minneapolis. Robert was recruited to play fast pitch softball for Jersey Ice Cream as their youngest team member. As they advanced in standings, the Jersey's played in three World Softball Tournaments, in 2012, Robert was inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame. Robert and Eldora (Graff) Werner were married 61 years until her passing in 2013. They raised four children, Paula (Greg) Ballanger, Robert Werner, Cheryl Malisheski and Denise (Jason) Dow; grandchildren, Rachel, Shawn, Serena, Ashley, Brett, Alicia, Brooke, Johnathan, Tanner, Nicholas and Tatum; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Roxie, Steven, Jonathan, Georgina, Kelsey, Karley, Theodore and Iris. Preceded in death by son-in-law, James Malisheski. After retiring from Precision Sheet Metal, Robert enjoyed shopping for cars, meeting the guys at McDonald's for morning coffee, making balsa wood airplanes, eating at local eateries including his favorites, Tasty Pizza and Asia Chow Mein. Robert and Eldora were long standing parishioners of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Because of the pandemic, we have decided as a family to a Private Service of Christian Burial and Interment. It would be greatly appreciated if everyone could take a few moments to offer a prayer or offer a mass for Robert and his family. Thank you to the Homestead of Anoka and all Robert's new friends for making his transition from living in his home to community living a good experience. Also, thank you Church of Saint Stephen's for taking care of Robert's spiritual needs while at the Homestead. In lieu of flowers, please do a random act of kindness.
