Obituary

Smith, Richard A. "Dick" age 81 of Blaine, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the Homestead of Anoka. Dick was born on October 11, 1938 in Minneapolis to Melvin and Velma (Davis) Smith. He grew up in the Minneapolis area and graduated from Mounds View High School. On August 17, 1963, Dick married Anita Goetz. Together, they raised their two daughters and celebrated nearly 57 years of marriage. In addition to his career as a transportation supervisor in the beverage industry, Dick kept busy umpiring baseball and in later years, volunteering at the Blaine Senior Center. He was an avid fisherman, bowler, and enjoyed deer hunting. Dick was active in the Men's Club at the Church of St. Timothy in Blaine, as well as a proud member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Anita; daughters, Debra Herold and Diane (Bennie) Denzer; grandchildren, Brittany, Austin, and Nick Herold, Brady, Jeremy, and Joshua Denzer; brother, John (Sigrid) Smith; sister, Judy Walberg; also many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Memorial Mass, Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 707 89th Avenue, NE, Blaine. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
