Schmelzer, Richard R. Age 99-1/2, of Anoka, died on September 23, 2021. He was reunited in the afterlife with: his wife of 71 years, Myrtle Schmelzer; Sons-Richard R Schmelzer, Jr., and James Schmelzer; Daughter, Linda Fritz; Sons-in-law- John Pederson, Donald Bellows and Robert Gadola. Survived by his children: Sharon Pederson, Carole Schmelzer, Janice Bellows, William Schmelzer, Christine (Chuck) Awker; Son-in-law Gary Fritz; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Dolores Marotte and Brother-Delmar Schmelzer; his brother-in-law George Duvall; along with many other loving relatives and friends. Richard was a true renaissance man. He had many talents and abilities. He had an amazing memory from the age of 6 months to 99 years. He joined the Army Air Corps in WWII and served as an instructor of radio communication. He was a licensed pilot with his own airplane which he still flew. He worked as the Superintendent of Mail at the Anoka Post Office, retiring at the age of 50. He then owned and operated a successful construction company. He built and provided houses for his children and family. He was a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. Funeral service and Mass at 11 am, on the 9th day of October, 2021 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 5th & Jackson St, Anoka. Visitation one hour before service.
