Richard (Rick) Addison Holmes, Jr., died peacefully on November 14th. He is survived by his spouse Linda (nee Vogt), son Terence (Youa), sister Joanne Trinchitella, grandsons Samuel and Tyler, and many nieces and nephews. Rick was was born on February 8, 1946 in Brockton Massachusetts to Richard Addison Holmes, Sr., and Irene (Leonard) Holmes. He grew up in a military family and spent much of his childhood on Naval bases. He started school in Panama, where his father was stationed, and his family later moved to Florida. Rick joined the U.S. Navy Seabees and served two tours in Vietnam from 1966-1969. He earned a degree from the University of Central Florida and relocated to Vermont, where he worked as an employment counselor, earned a Master's degree in Education Administration from Johnson State College, and met his future spouse, Linda. Rick and Linda moved to Minnesota in 1979 and welcomed their son a year later. They stayed in Minnesota, where Rick worked for the Hennepin County Department of Human Services for 25 years, retiring in 2012. Rick was a talented artist in pen and ink. He designed posters for the Wisconsin Loon Watch program, exhibited at the MN State Capitol, and published drawings in several national wildlife magazines. Rick also had a passion for antiquing, an interest he shared with his spouse. He loved cars, including his 1981 Corvette. He was a captivating storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor, and he baked a mean pie. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many. Funeral service Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, 11 AM at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay St. NW, Andover. Visitation 1 hour prior to service. Private interment, Fort Snelling Cemetery.
