Obituary

Richard J. Grabow (Dick), age 80 of Oak Grove, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022. Dick was born to Clifford and Jean (Wadum) Grabow in Omaha, NE, on May 5, 1942, and was the oldest of five children.

Growing up, Dick loved his cars and his Cushman Eagle motorcycle. The family made summer trips to Minnesota where Dick was able to fuel his passion for fishing and Minnesota lakes.  After graduating from Westside High School in Omaha, Dick went on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nebraska Omaha. He later served in the US Army during Vietnam, stationed in East St. Louis, Missouri.

In 1966, Dick moved back to Omaha, Nebraska where he met his "sweetheart" Diane Peters. On May 16, 1970, Dick and Diane were married in Elk Creek, Nebraska and moved to Minnesota that same year where they made their home in Oak Grove. There, Dick started his career, built a family and made life-long friends.   Dick began working as a mechanical engineer and draftsman at Crown Iron Works in 1970 where he made many close friends and travelled the world. Dick retired from Crown in 2009 after 39 years.

Dick was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on Lake George and Leech Lake, where he and Diane had a place at Anderson Cove Resort.  Dick took up running in his 40s and stayed active with daily runs and walks for the rest of his life. He cherished time with his family more than anything – playing with grandkids, fishing with Diane, and family trips to Nebraska, Arkansas, Florida and Mexico.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Diane, children Karie Blomquist (Jamie) and Clint Grabow, and his beloved grandchildren, Nolan, Stella, Vivian, Evan and Corinne and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Jean, brother William "Bill" Grabow, daughter-in-law Amy Grabow and granddaughter Abbey Grabow.

A celebration of life for Dick will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3812 229th Ave NW, St. Francis, MN 55070. A luncheon will follow the service.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer Association of Minnesota or Brighter Days Grief Center in Eden Prairie, MN.
