Obituary

Beberg, Peter M. "Pete" age 75, of Andover/ Anoka, passed away Wednesday, August 21. Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jane. Pete met Mary Jane, the new girl in town, at her Kool-Aid stand when they were 10 years old. They had a lifelong love living 3 houses apart, attending schools together and looking forward to a wonderful future, raising three children Stephen (Julianne), Christopher (Julie) and Laura (Christian) Hudson. Grandchildren Lucas (Maura), Nathan (Haley), Holden, Cecilia, Marvin, Cole, Amber (John) and Brittany, brothers David (Diane) and Michael (Vicki). Peter was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Helen (Kozak) Beberg, siblings Jon and James, Mary Susan and Marva Maria. Peter leaves a legacy of service including full time Firefighter with St. Anthony FD. He served Coon Rapids as a Police Officer for 25 years from 1970-1995, with titles of first School Liaison Officer in the State of MN, Detective, Lead Detective, and Sergeant. He went on to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office as Chief Deputy for 5 years. Pete also served as the Safety Director at Hunts Bus for 25 plus years. Peter lived a life of service and making the community a better place through his career, his civil and social involvement and his friendships. Pete and Mary Jane made their home in Anoka in 1974 teaching their 3 children many life and Catholic values through being very active in their faith and leadership of many events and committees at St. Stephen Catholic Church. A 50-year member of the Anoka Knights of Columbus Council 2018, Grand Knight in 1989-1990 and State of Minnesota KC Family of the year. Pete was Mayor of Anoka from 1990-1999 and very active in many community boards and organizations including Rotary, Anoka Anti-Crime Commission, Anoka Business and Land Owners, Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce and worked steadfastly with city boards, commissions and staff. During his 5 terms as Mayor there were many improvements to the City - the new Anoka Library, remodeled Anoka Aquatic Center, Anoka Industrial Park, updated bridge over the Mississippi from Anoka to Champlin, Anoka-Champlin Fire Department, Northstar Commuter Rail, Rivers Pointe TownHomes, Anoka Halloween Celebration including starting the Orange Tie Ball and MC of many Queen Pageants. Pete loved family time at Breezy Point Resort especially touring the lake on his pontoon by himself or packed with family, friends, beverages and treats, sitting on his golf cart at the boat landing with his grandchildren watching the "rookies" launch their boats, developing his model train display at his airplane hangar, or sitting on the patio with the beautiful view. He enjoyed being with friends during trips to the casino, Gold Wing motorcycle rides, and men's golf league. His favorite pastime was cheering on his grandchildren in their endeavors. Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11 am at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street, Anoka. Visitation Tuesday, September 3rd from 5-8 pm, with a 7:30 pm K of C rosary, at Thurston- DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay Street, NW, Andover and also one hour prior to Mass at the Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Anoka.
