Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Raymond Finnegan, 79 of Anoka, MN. A beloved father, partner, and friend Paul is preceded in death by his wife of 25 years Karen (Brecht), his parents Eva and LeRoy Finnegan, birth parents Violet and Ray Finnegan, his brother Eugene Finnegan, sister Ramona (Norm) Sitter, and his nephew Matthew Finnegan. Paul is survived by his 20-year partner and best friend Deb Pittman, his brothers Dennis (Lois), Steve (Karla) & Jim (Tamara), his three children Kathy (Tim) Beatty, Molly (Matt) Jacob, and Jon (Mary) Finnegan, and his three cherished grandchildren, Brittany (Aaron) Beatty, Taylor (Nick) Podkopacz, and Violet Jacob.

Paul proudly served in the Army for 6 years as a Staff Sergeant including active duty in Baumholder, Germany, as a tank commander, before embarking on a long and fulfilling 27-year career with the Anoka County Sheriff's Office where he forged many lifelong friendships. He concluded his life of service to our community working for the US Marshals at the Minneapolis Federal Courthouse.

A dedicated member of the American Legion, Paul frequented both the Crosslake Fifty Lakes Post 500, and served as a past Commander at the Edward B. Cutter Post 102 in Anoka, MN. He cherished the camaraderie and community he found there.

A man of many passions, Paul loved golfing, fishing, and boating. He treasured his retirement at his lake home in Crosslake, MN, where he enjoyed the beauty of nature and the company of family and friends. Paul's humor and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of his life will be held at 12 PM October 12, 2024 at the Edward B. Cutter American Legion Post 102 located at 400 West Main Street Anoka, MN 55303.

Private burial joining Karen at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on October 10. Memorials preferred to a veteran's organization of donor's choice.
