Obituary

Paul Leroy Armstrong was born on January 24, 1928, in Minneapolis to William Floyd Armstrong and Alice E. (Garlinghouse) Armstrong.  He grew up in north Minneapolis and attended Lowell Elementary School, Jordan Junior High School, North High School, and Vocational High School.

Paul served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945.

Paul married Mary Helen Stauffacher on May 29, 1948.  Throughout their marriage, they lived at homes in Minneapolis, Blaine, Osseo, Coon Rapids, and most recently in Anoka, Minnesota.

He attended Holiness Methodist School of Theology in 1955-1956.

During their marriage, Paul and Mary were blessed with seven children:  James, Pauline, Mary, Warner, Patrick, Ruth Ann, and Cheryl.

Paul worked as a parkkeeper for the Minneapolis Park Board for 32 years.  He also served as a pulpit supply pastor for 12 years; as the Chief of Police for the City of Big Lake for 4 years; as a security guard at Rosedale Center for 8 years; and he worked in apartment management for 8 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and taking meticulous care of his yard.

Paul passed into eternity on July 2, 2024, at his home in Anoka, Minnesota.  He was 96 years old.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Mary; daughter-in-law Brenda (Jim) Armstrong of Big Lake, Minnesota; daughters Pauline Maxwell and Cheryl (Durango) Nunez of Anoka, Minnesota; daughters Mary Holmes and Ruth Ann Pittman of Webster, South Dakota; son Warner (Karen) Armstrong of Watertown, South Dakota; Patrick (Nancy Uber) Armstrong of St. Anthony, Minnesota; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marion Wise of Los Banos, CA; brothers Robert Armstrong and William Armstrong, both from California; sister Gail Franklin of Minneapolis; brother Charles Armstrong from Oregon; and son James L. Armstrong of Big Lake, MN.

A Public visitation will be held on Thursday (7/18/2024) from 5 PM - 7 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Ave. Anoka. Interment will be on Friday at 10 AM at the Minnesota State Veteran Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
