Johnson, Naomi Marie née Hallberg age 80 of Anoka, went to the next world to be with the Lord on May 19. Naomi was born June 29, 1934 on a farm near Lake Netta, Minnesota, to Marie Belle Anderson Hallberg and Arnold Oscar Kermit Hallberg. The loves of Naomi's life included God, family, church and community, and educating. Naomi attended the one-room Lake Netta school where her mother was her teacher. Naomi was confirmed at the historic Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Ham Lake, Minnesota. She was named 4-H Health Queen of the Anoka County Fair as a child. She was valedictorian of the Anoka Senior High School Class of 1952. She gained her teaching credentials at St Cloud State University. She married Wallace Rockwell Johnson in 1954 and they had daughter Jill Marie Johnson. Naomi and Wally lived in Texas while Wally was in the Army. They returned to Minnesota and began their teaching careers in Bloomington, Minnesota where Naomi taught 5th grade. They moved to Anoka in 1958. Naomi was a painter, writer, and poet. She created newsletters for the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for many years and for the International Bible Givers nonprofit which she co-founded. She volunteered extensively with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and represented the organization to the hospital Board of Directors. Naomi taught Sunday School at the Anoka United Mothodist Church and at the Anoka Wesleyan Church, where she was church pianist as well. Naomi was very concerned about the dignity of older adults. She believed strongly in all ages working together and she had friendships with people ages 6 to 90s. She was a prodigious reader. She loved family and creating relationships, especially with her Sunday School students. She enjoyed history, exploring cemeteries, and her Swedish heritage. Naomi was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister. She is survived by her husband Wallace, daughter Jill, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service Wedneday, May 27, 11 AM with reviewal 1 hour prior at at Anoka Wesleyan Church, 1930 Branch Ave. Visitation Tuesday, May 26, 5-8 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Ave, Anoka. Interment Champlin Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to Anoka Wesleyan Church, International Bible Givers, the 4-H Foundation, the Anoka County Historical Society, or to the Naomi Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
