Michael Duane Wood (March 6, 1943–December 5, 2025)
Mike was a devoted and beloved husband to Susan (Frank) for almost 62 years. He was a father of 5, grandfather of 17 grandchildren, and great grandfather of 19. He was best known for speaking Donald Duck to children of all ages and telling Ole & Lena jokes. His creativity was manifested in the form of music, poetry, art, and a patented invention. To know him, was to love him.
Mike was born in Fort Bragg, NC to Bill and Rhoda (Krogan) Wood. He also had a brother, Daniel, who died at birth. His father fought in WWII and in the Korean War. Mike followed in his dad's footsteps, serving in the National Guard. He attended Columbia Heights High School, then went on to Dunwoody Institute and graduated to become a union electrician. He was often available to help family, friends, and neighbors with electrical projects.
Mike and Sue were high school sweethearts, involved in "Saturday Nighters" and this is where their love story began. He was smitten with the spirited outgoing Catholic brunette. They dated for 3 years and then married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 4, 1964.
Mike and Sue valued family and had 5 children: Teresa (and Kyle), Daina (and Matt), Laura (and Dave), Monica (and Bryan), and John (and Kerry). From there, 17 grandchildren entered their lives. Mike and Sue had many adventures together, spanning the world. Mike frequently told stories about their travels and about ancient civilizations and UFOs. His kids have fond memories of hearing the stories and also loved listening to him play his guitar and sing.
Mike will be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit and Christ-like example. The smell of coffee will forever remind us of Mike's presence. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 am at The Church of the Epiphany on Monday, December 15th : 1900 111th Ave. NW, Coon Rapids, MN. The funeral
mass will commence at 10:30 am with lunch to follow.
