Obituary

Larson, Maxine Archibald age 84, of Ham Lake, Minnesota, passed away at her home on July 29, 2017. She was born on May 27, 1933 at her family's home in Bay Lake, Minnesota to Earl and Mina (Doty) Archibald. She graduated from Crosby Ironton High School in 1951 and graduated from the University Of Minnesota with a journalism degree in 1955. She married Rodney M. Larson on June 23, 1956. Maxine was heavily involved in numerous volunteer organizations during her busy life. She was the "Fearless Leader" of the Golden Eagles 4-H Club for many years. She served as president of the Anoka County Historical Society for twenty years. She was president and member of the Minneapolis Poetry Society and the Midwest Federation of Chaparral Poets. She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, the St. Andrews Society and the Eastern Star. She worked for the Anoka County Union reporting on area matters. She served as secretary of the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association. Maxine had a lifelong love of music which began with her father teaching her the guitar at a young age. She was involved in many music groups including The Hymnspinners and Country Sunshine. She was a member of and participated in many musical jam groups and also performed at neighboring hospitals and the Anoka County Fair. Maxine is survived by daughters Annette M. Larson (Matthew Magdefrau) of Blaine, MN and Janine C. Mattfield (Daniel) of Grand Rapids, MN, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, sister Mary Jane Diaz of McAllen, TX, brother David Archibald (Sandy) of Bay Lake, MN, sister Karen Kretlow (Bob) of Coon Rapids, MN, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who are too many to mention. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Rodney (d. 2008), her parents and her sister, Ethel Archibald. Memorial service will be held at Thurston's Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Avenue in Anoka, MN, on Friday, August 4, 2017, with a visitation at 10:00 AM, memorial service at 11:00 AM, and a luncheon following at the Anoka Masonic Lodge located at 1908 3rd Ave. So. in Anoka, MN. Maxine will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Bay Lake Cemetery in Bay Lake, MN at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred
