Maxine Cora Coons

November 7th, 1930 – May 5, 2025

On Monday, May 5th, 2025, Maxine Cora Coons, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born in Becker, Minnesota, on November 7th, 1930, to Ethel and W. Earl Fountain. A bright and determined young woman, she graduated from high school in 1948 with aspirations of becoming a nurse and hoped to enlist in the Navy to pursue medical training. She was baptized on September 16, 1956, at the Becker United Methodist Church.

On September 24, 1950, she married the love of her life, George Harvey Coons. Together, they purchased a farm in Anoka, Minnesota, where they built a life rooted in hard work, love, and faith. Their farm became not just a home, but a gathering place for family and friends—a place filled with laughter, meals from Maxine's kitchen, and generations of cherished memories.

Maxine was a woman of strong character and dedication. She owned and operated her own cleaning business, taking great pride in her work and building lasting relationships within her community.

Her life was deeply rooted in her Christian faith, which guided her through every season. She was a devoted member of her church and lived her life as a reflection of kindness, humility, and grace. Her unwavering belief in God gave her strength and peace, and she shared that faith with her family and all who knew her.

Maxine had a passion for the simple joys in life, from planting flowers, baking, and having fresh flowers in her home. She was a talented baker.  Her kitchen was always full of different tasty smells of pies, brownies, pastries, and cakes.  Her chocolate cake with white frosting was a favorite for everyone who came over. Another one of her remarkable talents was crocheting.  It was great getting a crocheted blanket or kitchen towel from her! When in her home, you always had a terrific experience and felt the love, plus you never left empty-handed or with an empty stomach.

We lost a very special person with her passing, yet a big win for heaven and her husband, who now has her back!

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; her parents, Ethel and Earl Fountain; her siblings Robert, Leslie, Verdene, and Mary; her daughter Sheryl Anne; her grandson-in-law, Nick; her great-grandson, Cameron; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren lost through miscarriage.

Maxine is lovingly remembered by her children: Deb (Dennis), Robert (Penelope), Russell (Sandee), Perry (Penny), and Troy (Jerilyn); grandchildren Chris (Annette), Bill (Tammi), Ryan, Carrie (Chad), Eric (Melissa), Shawn, Matt (Desi), Jake, Sarah, Rachel, Becky, Christine (Juren), Patrick (Ti), Josh (Ginny), Justina (Jay), Angela (Matt), Tasha (David), Austin (Alisha), Samantha, and Grace; great-grandchildren Kaleb, Nick, Kailey, Kristi, Emma, Kyle, Autumm, Ella, Copper, Lily, Thor, Tarek, Hailee, Avery, Chace, Rhiannon, Tate, Weston, MaKenzie, Parker, Charlette, Lindsay, Ashton, Joel, Venessa, Caryl, William, George, Joshua, Zachery, Gabriella, Camden, Brooklyn, DaKoda, Marlee, and Levi; and great-great-grandchildren Easton, Rivers, Nora, Aubree, Chance, Cameron, Elora Ann and Waylon.

A celebration of Maxine's life will take place on May 10, 2025, at St. Francis United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at https://minnstate.zoom.us/j/96143235284.

Interment will follow at West Oak Grove Cemetery. Lunch will be served back at the church following the burial.
