Mavis Valorie Anderson, age 83 of Anoka, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018 at her home.

Mavis was born in Fertile, MN in 1934.  She was a graduate of Stillwater High School and Hamline University in St. Paul.  She taught Physical Education for 10 years in the Anoka-Hennepin school district and spent part of that time coaching the Anoka High School girls golf team.  Mavis was an avid bridge player, golfer, and loved fishing and the outdoors.  She and her husband, Merle, celebrated 61 years of marriage on December 29, 2017.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Anne and Hector Hanson; sister, Darlene Swaim.  She is survived by her husband, Merle; sons, Mark (Marna) and Matthew (Jonelle); sister, Carol (Darryl) Wangsness; brother, David (Eileen); grandchildren, Elyse, Isabelle, Ben, and Emily; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Avenue, Anoka.  Visitation one hour prior to the service (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.)  Private Interment.
