Obituary

Mark was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on February 14, 1965 to William and Patricia Rosen. Early in his life, Dad's studies and jobs moved the family from Albany, NY to Rochester, MN to Fargo, ND. Mark was a born genius and studied hard. If there was an academic award to be had, Mark earned it. It wasn't just about school though, he also played football and hockey. He continued to be active his whole life, with Inline Skating and North Shore Marathons. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with degrees in Computer Science and Chemistry and from UC-Berkeley with a PhD in Chemistry. During his post-graduate work, he was able to combine travel and learning with trips to Germany and Italy. His career began at Varian in Palo Alto, California. From there, he continued his pursuits in Minnesota. First, the University of Minnesota, next to Physical Electronics, then to Teradyne and, finally, Stratasys where he was Director of Engineering. His greatest joy was, beyond question, his family. He met the love of his life, Cheryl Kuivanen when both were members of the UMD Scholars Club. After a 4-year courtship, he romantically proposed in Lake Tahoe. Mark and Cheryl were blessed to welcome sons Brandon and Tyler. Family life was busy with spending time at the family cabins on Lake Vermilion and "the Kamp" in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Time spent boating, sailing, water skiing, paddle boarding and fishing created life-long memories as did family trips to explore the world together. Mark was equally devoted to his fur-babies, Golden Retrievers Quincy and Berklee Anne. They loved going for long walks and eating popcorn together. Mark gave his whole heart to his sons. He attended every hockey game, lacrosse game and ski meet. No amount of below zero temperatures would keep him from videotaping Brandon and all the skiers for the high school team. He was always available to help with homework, never was there a problem too hard for him to solve. Mark even studied alongside Tyler as he got his own Electrical Engineering degree. As the boys grew, he continued to support their passions. He helped Tyler with his music endeavors, serving as the 'official roadie'. Mark's love of programming helped Tyler get his business website up. He was so proud of Brandon's studies in medicine and research medicine. Mark's character and faith were core to who he was. 1 John 3:18 tells us "Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth." Mark loved openly and gave of himself selflessly to anyone. He didn't hesitate or complain, for him, he was simply following his moral compass. He knew that we are all God's work in progress and strove always to grow in knowledge, understanding and faith. Just as our Lord and Savior loves us unconditionally and welcomes us with open arms, so did Mark with everyone in his life. Until God calls each of us to Heaven's door and we are reunited, we promise to live our lives by the values and examples Mark showed us every day.  Preceded in death by nephew, Carter Rosen. Mark will be forever loved, cherished, and missed by wife Cheryl, sons Brandon and Tyler, parents William and Patricia, siblings David (Joan), Brad (Mary) and Andrea, Cheryl's parents C. Leslie and Margo Kuivanen, sister-in-law Laureen Kuivanen, nieces and nephews, Erik, Krista, Carly, Chase, Erin and Jason who will remember him always. Private Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. For those attending MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
