Marion Julia Miller, age 89, passed away with family by her side on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Marion was born July 8, 1933, in Marion Springs, Michigan, to Ernest and Julia (Otto) Weigold. Raised on the family farm with sisters Eleanor, Margaret ("Margie"), and Louise, and brothers Ernest, Jr. ("Junior"), Oscar, and Marvin, she enjoyed playing the organ at church and at home, as well as sewing and baking with her mother and sisters. She did not enjoy hoeing pickles—as anyone who asked about her childhood would know.

One night at the local roller rink, friend Bob Burtch introduced her to Rod Miller. The two were married in 1952. They spent the next few years in Lansing, Michigan, where Marion worked while Rod attended Michigan State and served in the US Army. In 1956, Marion and their daughters, Cheryl and Lynette, joined Rod at his military base in Germany. Over the next several years, Marion focused on taking care of the family as they followed Rod's army and career assignments to Texas; Wisconsin, where their son, Ross, was born; and Utah. In 1963, they all moved to Anoka, Minnesota. When Rod and a friend started a steel distribution business in the late 1960s, Marion went back to work outside the home–first in Rod's office and later in an insurance company.

While raising their three children in Anoka, Marion and Rod spent hours attending piano and band programs, plays, hockey games, motocross races, and other activities. Every year, they packed up the kids and headed to Michigan to visit extended family. In summers, Marion joined Rod and the children on occasional camping and fishing trips, although she really preferred the comforts of her home.

In 1986, she and Rod moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and she again worked in his office. In 1991, Rod retired and they bought a townhome in Red Wing, Minnesota, where she worked in a bank until her own retirement in 1995. For several years, she and Rod traveled frequently to visit their son and his family in Montana, their families in Michigan, and friends in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Throughout her life, Marion enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, and music. She attended church regularly and had many friends in circle and other service groups. As her family grew, she loved to decorate the house and host gatherings for the holidays, especially Christmas. Her home was filled with pictures and mementos from children and grandchildren.

Following Rod's death in 2014, Marion stayed in Red Wing, near her church and good friends. In 2018, she moved to Walker Plaza in Anoka, to be close to her daughter Lynette. In her last years, she appreciated both quiet time with puzzles and books, and social time with friends and family.

Marion is survived by her children, Cheryl (Ken) Drivdahl of Northfield, Minnesota, Lynette Stratton of Anoka, Minnesota, and Ross (Sally Johnson) of Missoula, Montana; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother Marvin (Joyce) of Marion Springs, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, two brothers, son-in-law, and other family members. She will be interred with Rod at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A memorial service is planned for spring 2023.

Memorials are preferred to the Dementia Society of America. Her family would like to thank the staff at Walker Plaza and the many doctors, nurses, and attendants who have cared for Marion.
