Marcene Kay (Loomis) Barkley, 74, of Nowthen, MN, passed away at her home on Friday, August 6, 2021.  She was surrounded by her husband of 56 years and her family.

Funeral and Internment services are planned for Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Thurston DeShaw Funeral Home 13817 Jay St. NW, Andover MN.  Visitation starts at 10:30 with an 11:30 funeral where we invite you to share your memories of Marcene.  The service will be followed by lunch and internment at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Marcene was born on September 8, 1946 as the oldest daughter of Carl (Shorty) and Nancy Loomis in Watertown, SD.  She grew up in Garden City, SD graduating from Garden City High School in 1964.

Marcene married Wayne Barkley at the United Methodist Church in Garden City in January 1965.  They lived in Minneapolis where they began their family.  After living In Minneapolis for a short time, they moved to New Brighton where they lived for 26 years.  In 1992 they built their current home and moved to Nowthen.

Marcene spent time with her many hobbies including snowmobiling, quilting, genealogy, crocheting, cross-stitching, and scrapbooking.  She enjoyed being with her family, friends, playing games and laughing.  When not at home, Marcene and Wayne loved to travel via the scenic route to get to their destination.  But by far, her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her grandchildren hearing about their lives and attending all their events.

Marcene is survived by her husband Wayne; children Kim and John Dennstedt, Jill Shea and Joel and Andrea Barkley; sister Tammy (Pat) Rausch.  She was a beloved grandma to Cody, McKenna, Rachel, Olivia, Allie, Connor, Vince and Will. Marcene was preceded in death by her parents Carl (Shorty) and Nancy Loomis and infant sister Roxanne.
