Obituary

Larry Paul Thompson born on December 14, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Olive and Paul H. Thompson passed away February 8, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Beau Jae Luithle. Larry's father's ministry assignments resulted in the family moving from Minnesota to North Dakota in 1959. In subsequent years, Larry and the family lived in Idaho and Wyoming. Upon graduation from high school in Boise, Idaho, Larry attended Tomlinson College (two years in Cleveland, Tennessee); Mary College (Bismarck, North Dakota); and Idaho State University (Pocatello, Idaho). Upon graduation from Idaho State University (1974), Larry worked for the retail firm of Fargo Wilson Wells in Pocatello. In 1978, he accepted a position as a staff accountant with Marathon Oil in Casper, Wyoming. In this position he progressed through accounting positions, which included living in Nigeria and Ohio; travels through multiple oil and gas locations in the United States and other countries; and his eventual move to Houston, Texas. He retired from Marathon Oil in January 2000. In 2002 Larry joined Stewart Information Service Corporation in Houston, Texas. He served in various financial management positions which required world-wide travels, as well as temporary living assignments in Toronto and London. In January 2020, Larry again retired; however, in January 2021, he rejoined Stewart Subsidiary Stewart Title limited to serve as executive officer until mid-January 2023. Colleagues acknowledged his non-stop work ethic, graciousness in sharing his business knowledge, and mentorship, as well as his friendship to many. Although the travels were tiring, Larry realized how blessed he was for the opportunity to travel to various countries and to experience their culture and cuisine. Besides his professional career, Larry is remembered for his care and concern for family and friends, gracious hospitality, infectious laughter, mischievousness, and musical giftings. Larry always ensured milestones and special achievements of his family, as well as holidays, were honored and, when possible, celebrated with them. Similarly, Larry was mindful to celebrate with friends and often quietly exhibited his generous heart. Larry was a loving brother, nephew, cousin, and a dear friend to many and he is greatly missed. Private services and burial have been held.
