John Douglas Perry age 24 of East Bethel Minnesota passed away on May 12, 2025 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. John was born to Douglas and Alison on May 18, 2000 in Cambridge Minnesota

He attended schools in Linwood Minnesota and Forest Lake Minnesota and was a graduate of Forest Lake High School Class of 2019.

John was diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy at the age of six.  He battled this disease with great courage for 19 years before he could no longer go on.  He recently chose to undergo a gene therapy procedure that was designed to slow the progression of his disease and that John hoped would lead to a cure for others in the future.

John loved all animals, especially his Chihuahua Peeco who saw herself as his protector.  She loved to hitch rides on his wheelchair tray wherever he would travel.

He thoroughly enjoyed trips to the Minnesota Zoo and Como Park to be with the animals and John especially loved the time he got to spend with his three nieces—Natalie, Sophia and Sage.

John is survived by his mother (and best friend in the world),  Alison Usher-Ehling; step-father, Dean Ehling;  brothers, Mark Granlund and Luke Granlund; sister, Terrin Granlund, three nieces, several cousins, two aunts and father, Douglas Perry.

Services for John will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 starting with a visitation from 10 AM - 11 AM followed by the service at 11 AM at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay St. NW, Andover, MN. John will be laid to rest at South Maple Ridge Cemetery in Stanchfield, MN.
