It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Barlingar, a man of boundless energy and intelligence. John was born on August 9, 1953, and transitioned out of this life on October 5, 2025. Through his journey of 72 years, he touched many lives with his wisdom, humor, and an unwavering spirit of perseverance.
Driven by an endless thirst for knowledge, John was a lifelong learner and a devoted teacher. He earned a Bachelor of Science and a master's degree. When he couldn't find work in his discipline, he worked as a Nursing Assistant for many years and then later worked as a chaplain until his illness. He had a passion for discovering new things and the unswerving pursuit of truth. This spirit which characterized his life translated into lessons he earnestly imparted into those around him.
John's legacy of humor, perseverance, and learning will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with curiosity and resilience.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
He is predeceased by his father, Bartomeo Barlingar and mother Wlodue Barlingar, a brother of one mom and one father, James Barlingar and his sister, Tetee Barlingar and many others.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Evelyn Rosal-Barlingar, and children, John Barlingar, Jr., Rosanna M. Barlingar, Jimmy Barlingar, Rachel Barlingar-Stahl (married to Kenneth Stahl) and Ryan B. Barlingar. and grandchildren (Children of John Barlingar, Jr.), Esther Barlingar and Favor Barlingar, (children of Jimmy Barlingar), Varney Barlingar, Pinky Barlingar and Praise Barlingar, and (children of Rachel Barlingar-Stahl), Steven Seley, Jr., Kenneth JT Stahl, Demah B. Stahl and Jaiden CT Stahl, who were the lights of his life. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and all who mourn John's departure.
A funeral service celebrating John's exceptional life will be held on November 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM (Viewing starts at 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM) at Brooklyn United Methodist Church, 7200 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429. We invite all who knew and loved John to join us in honoring his memory.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor John's legacy of learning and teaching by seeking out new knowledge, pushing beyond the boundaries of the known, and sharing these insights with others. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to his extraordinary life
