Deal, James “Jim” D. age 92 of Andover, passed away on August 25, 2026.
Jim was raised on their family farm near Herman, MN and graduated from Wheaton High School. He loved spending time farming, gardening, fishing, and hunting around the world and at his preserve in Mora, he always had a list of things to do. Jim was a great storyteller and loved to make people laugh. Jim was appointed Manager of Federal Crop Insurance by President Jimmy Carter. Jim was one of the Chief Architects of the FCIC Act of 1980, and he was very proud of that. In 1980, he returned home to MN from Washington D.C. and founded 2 of the largest crop insurance companies (RCIS and NAU) in the United States. He was very generous to his family, employees, church, Mercy Hospital, Achieve Services, and anyone who was in need. Jim was hard working, very smart, wise, and was a mentor to so many, all of his employees loved him. He always put family first and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Since 1980, he was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Anoka and held a strong Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Florence Deal, sister Joanne (Clyde) Dobberstein, brother Jerome Deal, and son, John Kuker. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pam; children, Kevin (Julie) Deal, Kris (Bob) Bugher, Greg (Kathy) Deal, Jeff (Dawn) Deal, Matt (Tara) Kuker; grandchildren, Carrie (Steven) Zimmer, Rachel (Paul) Dahl, Leann (Jeromey) Stoneburg, Justin (Jennifer) Bugher, Jesse (Amber) Bugher, Janelle (Justin) Wallin, Mick (Vanessa) Deal, Missy (Michael) Stambook, Darren Deal, Jeff (Betsy) Backdahl, Haley (Blakely) Brush, Josh (Angela) Deal, Sara (Greg) Woolsey, Ben Kuker, Beth Kuker, Max Kuker; 32 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Lois) Deal along with many other loving family and friends.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 5-8 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home located at 2005 Branch Ave, Anoka, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 11 AM with a visitation one hour prior to Mass at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 525 Jackson St, Anoka, MN. Private Interment.
