Jerome John Meyer July 30, 1937 – March 18, 2026
Jerome John Meyer, age 88, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2026, after a ten-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on July 30, 1937, in Pierz, Minnesota, to John and Magdalena Meyer, Jerome developed a strong work ethic early in life. He attended school in Hillman through the eighth grade before dedicating his time to help work on the family farm. At the age of 16, he moved to Minneapolis to enter the workforce. He proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
On October 7, 1963, Jerome married the love of his life, Sharon Boser. He spent 41 dedicated years working for Stewart Lumber Company, where he took on various roles, including truck driver, office worker, and millworker.
Jerome had a lifelong passion for woodworking, hunting, and playing cards with his brothers and nephews, but his greatest joy was his family. An enthusiastic sports fan, he loved watching the MN Vikings, MN Twins, and his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He was known for his playful, silly nature and loved nothing more than making others laugh. Always generous with his time and talents, Jerome was quick to lend a hand to anyone in need of his woodworking skills.
A true testament to his dedication and craftsmanship was the family cabin he built on Platte Lake. Starting with original plans drawn on a simple piece of paper, Jerome, Sharon, and their children spent every weekend for two years hauling materials from the Cities to build their retreat. Today, the cabin continues to be a cherished gathering place, standing as a lasting legacy of his love and hard work. Later in life, Jerome found a special kind of joy in his grandchildren, who never failed to bring a bright smile to his face.
Jerome is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sharon Meyer; his children, Mark (Janet Smith) Meyer, Maria (Eric) Hanson, and Paul (Tanya) Meyer; his seven grandchildren, Olivia, Laura (Shane), Forest, Alyssa, Mason, Joe, and Ella; his great-grandchild, Nova; and his siblings, Florence (Gene) Smykalski, Matthew (Delores) Meyer, and Gary (Jo Ann) Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Magdalena Meyer; his siblings, George, Lucille (Clarence) Pomplun, Rodrick (survived by his wife, Debbie), and James Meyer; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Meyer; and his granddaughter, Elaina Meyer.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, located at 525 Jackson Street in Anoka. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM, with a luncheon celebrating Jerome's life immediately afterward. Jerome will be laid to rest on Friday, April 10th, at 10:00 AM at Camp Ripley.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Parkinson's Foundation or Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls in Jerome’s memory.
