IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeraldine Ann
Schulz
October 24, 1941 – September 21, 2023
Jeraldine (Jerri) Schulz of Nowthen passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023.
Jerri was born on October 24, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN, to Reuben and Marian Terras. Her family moved to Wadena, MN when she was 12. In Wadena, Jerri's family owned a bakery and coffee shop, where she worked alongside other family members.
Jerri attended Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) and majored in German and Education. During college, she met her husband Bill while still working at the family bakery.
Jerri and Bill were married in July 1963 and she started her first teaching job in Moorhead. After moving with Bill to Brooklyn Park, she taught English and German in the Mound School District. In 1965 she moved to Coon Rapids High School, teaching the same subjects.
Jerri stepped away from the classroom for 15 years to raise four children: Amy, Nathan, Isaac, and Mike. When her older children were in junior high, Jerri returned to the classroom, first with substitute teaching in the Elk River School District, then teaching three years with St. John's Lutheran School in Nowthen, followed by three years with the Alternative Learning Center in Elk River. Jerri then taught English at Vandenberg Jr. High until her retirement. Later in her career Jerri earned an M.A. from St. Mary's University and taught graduate classes on learning styles.
Church and faith were always important to Jerri. For many years Jerri and Bill were members of Central Lutheran Church in Elk River where she served as the senior choir director and enjoyed performing with the Blackwell Singers. Jerri and Bill then spent almost 30 years being involved members of Nowthen Alliance Church.
Throughout her life Jerri enjoyed singing, reading, traveling, volunteering, socializing, and helping her children and students succeed in life. Activities on the family farm included cooking, gardening, and canning. She also loved sewing and quilting, making cherished quilts for many family members over the years.
Jerri is survived by one sister, Judy Azemove, and her four children, Amy, Nathan (Shanna), Isaac (Falone), and Mike (Brittany), and four grandchildren: Hayden, Ericka, Annabelle, and Ruby. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 57 years, Bill, and by her parents (Reuben and Marian Terras), sister (Jan Smith), and grandson (Michael Schulz).
Visitation will be held at Thurston-Lindberg-DeShaw Funeral Home in Anoka on Tuesday, Oct 3 at 5-8 pm. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Nowthen on Wednesday, Oct 4 at 11 am. A memorial service will later be held at Nowthen Alliance Church on Saturday, Oct 28 at 11 am.
