After a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Janet F. Lee (West), age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Cambridge, MN.
She was born on July 23, 1946, in Mora, MN and grew up on the family farm outside of Cambridge. She graduated in 1964 from Cambridge High School and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Cambridge. She graduated from Mankato State College in 1969 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at the Naval Air Base Elementary School in Key West, FL and in Norfolk, Virginia before returning home to spend the rest of her life in Minnesota. She taught at St. Francis Elementary until she retired. She was known for being a dedicated, caring teacher. In 1987 she married P. Wayne Lee and together they lived and worked on their family farms. She loved working in their yard and planting beautiful perennials, and always an abundance of beautiful red geraniums each spring. She also loved interior decorating and collecting artwork.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Wayne Lee of Cedar, MN. She was stepmother to Lisa Lee, and Jennifer (Matthew) Sasse (Lee). They were Grandparents to Madelyn and Jonah Sasse. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Loken and Nancy McDougald (John), her stepdaughter Jennifer Sasse (Matt), sister-in-law Joanne Koltes-West, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Leona West, as well as her brother Cliff West, brother-in- law Frank Loken, and stepdaughter Lisa Lee. She enjoyed spending summer afternoons at the lake and working in her yard.
Visitation will be at the Cambridge Baptist Church on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, followed by her Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm. A dinner will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Calvary Cemetery in Anoka, MN.
