Obituary

James “Jim” Thompson was born on August 12, 1950, and passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026.

Jim spent much of his career in construction management, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, practical knowledge, and dedication. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built throughout his career.

Outside of work, Jim found his greatest happiness in the experiences and people who meant the most to him. He loved spending time at the lake, enjoyed the excitement of drag racing, and treasured being surrounded by family. Some of his greatest joy came from watching and supporting his sons & grandchildren in their many extracurricular activities. Whether cheering from the sidelines or simply being present, Jim was incredibly proud of each of them.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his sons, Rodney and Jerry, his daughter-in-law, DeDe; his cherished grandchildren, Sydney, Brody, Skylar, and Nash; and his brother, John Thompson. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Amy Thompson. Jim will be remembered for his steady presence, hardworking spirit, love of family, and the pride he took in those closest to him. His warmth, support, and the many memories he created will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 with a visitation from 1 -2 PM followed by the service at 2 PM at Thurston-Deshaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay Street NW, Andover. Jim will be laid to rest at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Oak Grove following the service. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Serranos in Elk River from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
