Jim served in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970 and was a meatcutter at Applebaums and other grocery chains in the Minneapolis area for over 30 years.  He loved his hunting, fishing and gardening.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony & Sylvia (Swanson) Shir, brothers, Raymond & Bob and by a sister, Rose Ploeger.  He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Marten, Rita Doughty and Mary Kent, brother, Martin (Alice) and his former wife Susan Shir. Memorial Services Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Avenue, Anoka.  Interment Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids.
