Hendrika Murphy, age 67 of Oak Grove, MN was born on April 15, 1954 and On Tuesday, November 23, 2021, Hendrika Murphy, loving wife, mother of two, and grandmother of four, passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 67, peacefully surrounded by family.

Hendrika was born on April 15, 1954, in Zeist, Netherlands, to Antonie Arres van Veldhuyzen and Wilhelmina Maria Borra van Veldhuyzen. She met the love of her life, John J. Murphy II, on December 7th, 1974. John was stationed at Camp New Amsterdam for the US Airforce. They married at the First Presbyterian Church Minneapolis, MN on January 1, 1977. Hendrika made the United States her new home in the spring of 1977. Her and John had two children John J. Murphy III, born 1980, and Micahel A. Murphy born 1984.

She enjoyed gardening, fishing, scrapbooking, music, Minnesota Twins Baseball, and cooking. She later became a citizen of the United States September 13th, 2006, one of her proudest moments. She loved working with children and worked for the Anoka Hennepin school district as a teacher's aide, child care worker, and in-home daycare.

Hendrika was preceded in death by her father, Antonie, mother, Wilhelmina, Brother, Ton,  nephew, Dennis, and father-in-law's John J. Murphy I, and Don Nelson. She is survived by her husband John, her two children John III and Michael. Her grandchildren Leo, Eleanor, Brooklynn, and Braelin. Her mother-in-law Patricia Nelson. Her sister, Wil and husband Leo. Her brother, Hans and daughter susuan. Her nephew Elias, his wife Bianca, their children, Alec, and Finn. Her sister-in-law Riet, nephews Peter, and Susan. Her daughter-in-law's, Yvonne Murphy and Gloria Murphy. Her extended family Jeremy and Kristi Hill, Jimmy Hill, and many friends and neighbors. Lastly, her beloved puppies Amber, Dutchess, and grand puppies Pepper, Cici, and Lola.

Funeral services for Hendrika will be held on Thursday, December 2nd, 2021 beginning with a visitation at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay St. NW, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 AM. Interment will immediately follow the luncheon at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
