IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold George
Wegner
July 31, 1929 – October 16, 2024
(The Reverend) Harold George Wegner
Harold was born on a farm in northern Wisconsin on July 31, 1929 to George and Meta Wegner. The farm was two miles from the village of Butternut, a small town of 400 people. He was the oldest of five children.
He always loved the outdoors, and fishing in the creeks and lakes was his pastime. Harold married Violet Schultz, his sweetheart since middle school in 1948. They moved to the southern Wisconsin / northern Illinois area and Harold worked on large farms as a hired hand for several years. In 1953 they had their first child and then moved to the Minneapolis area. Harold took a job as a local delivery truck driver. They bought their first house in Fridley, MN in 1958 after their third son was born.
Harold and his wife Violet were very active in their Missouri Synod Lutheran church. At age 45, Harold decided to become a Pastor. He completed three years at Concordia College while still working full time as a truck driver. They then moved to St. Louis, MO and Harold attended
three years at the Seminary. He graduated from the Seminary in 1980, and served at Holy Cross in Austin, MN from 1980 to 1990. In 1990 the Lord called Harold to Family of Christ Lutheran church in Andover, MN where he served for 18 years until 2008.
Harold and Violet enjoyed their retirement and stayed active with their friends in the church. They enjoyed many family activities including dice and card games. They liked their road trips especially Colorado, and seeing new things. Harold live trapped 525 squirrels (he kept track)
and relocated them one at a time across the river. Violet didn't like them disturbing their bird feeders.
In the year 2017 Harold and Violet sold their home in Coon Rapids and moved into an Assisted Living Facility. Harold's wife Violet left us to visit the Lord at age 89. Harold lived another 4 years, 9 months and passed away peacefully at age 95 while being sung "How Great Thou Art"
by family members.
Harold thanked God for his wife of 71 years, Violet, and his three sons and their wives: Laird and Barb, Bill and Polly and John and Jennifer. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and their spouses, and 19 ½ great grandchildren. Harold is also survived by his youngest brother Frank and his wife Gail, sister in law JoAnn, and several nieces and nephews.
