Grace Elaine Wahlert (Lossing) was born on March 13, 1941, in Blackduck, Minnesota, to Alpha (Jarvis) and Burnie Lossing. She was raised in Blackduck and was the youngest of eleven children. Grace graduated from Blackduck High School in 1959.Following graduation, Grace moved to Minneapolis and began her lifelong career at the University of Minnesota in 1959. Over the course of 44 years, she built a distinguished career marked by dedication and leadership. In 1979, she was named Associate Administrator, advancing to Administrator in 1981. In 1986, she became Administrator Director, and in 1989 she received the CHE Prolonged Outstanding Performance Award in recognition of her service. In 1993, she was promoted to Senior Administrator Director. Grace retired in 2003 after 44 years of proud service to the university.On July 18, 1964, Grace was united in marriage to Bernie Wahlert. From this union, her daughter Gail Wahlert (Beckenbach) was born. Grace and Bernie shared many years of love, travel, and companionship. Grace had a deep love for her family and took great pride in documenting her family tree. She enjoyed tending her gardens in Anoka and had a fondness for decorating with moose, loons, and cardinal collectibles. She loved camping and cherished many trips and outings across the United States. Grace and Bernie spent many winters in Texas as “Winter Texans,” where Grace formed many lasting friendships. She enjoyed golfing, shopping, and attending country outdoor concerts. Grace and Bernie were among the first attendees of the Winstock Country Music Festival and continued attending annually for many years. Grace will be remembered as kind, caring, knowledgeable, and always willing to lend a helping hand. She strongly believed in people getting along and treated everyone with warmth and respect. Grace was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail; her parents, Alpha (Jarvis) and Burnie Lossing; and her siblings, Burnie, Raymond, Elizabeth, Floyd, Evelyn, Ruth, James, Ralph, Wallace, and Arlene. She is survived by her loving husband, Bernie Wahlert; stepdaughter Audrey; grandsons Daniel (Fiancé Glenda Schlueter) and Brandon; great-grandchildren Brea (Fiancé Reece Janiach) Avery, and Bailey; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Grace Wahlert, of Donna, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the age of 84, while in the care of Cornerstone Nursing Home in Fosston, Minnesota. A Sharing of Memories will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 11 am at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Avenue, Anoka. Visitation one hour prior to services. Lunch to follow at the Anoka American Legion and burial at 2 pm at Lakeview Cemetery, Nowthen.
