Wilkinson, Gordy age 83, of Anoka, MN passed away on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, concluding his 8 year journey with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Gordy was born March 29, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in South Minneapolis and attended Roosevelt High School and then the Minneapolis School of Art and Design. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served two years at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He then returned to his career as a graphic designer and art director. After retiring, he tutored Title I students for 4 years.
He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his gentle loving spirit, quick sense of humor, compassion, warmth, sincerity, cheerfulness, and sweet smile. He enjoyed participating in several sports, including running 13 marathons, gymnastics, baseball, biking, golf, and pool volleyball. He loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and especially his beloved Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling to places like Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Arizona, Maine, and Europe.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife of 29 years, Jeanne Bursheim Wilkinson; sons, Sean and Shea; stepchildren and grandchildren, Nat Bursheim, Rachel Bursheim Breckenridge (Andy), Stina and Mariska Breckenridge.
Gordy is preceded in death by parents Henry "Allan" and Irene Wilkinson, brother Richard "Dick", and infant son, Chad.
A memorial service and interment will be held on June 12th at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior.
The family would like to thank the loving and dedicated staff at Personal Care Senior Living in Andover and the Interim Hospice Team for enabling his last months and days to be as joyful and peaceful as possible. In a quest to find a cure for Alzheimer's, Gordy contributed to the University of Maryland Brain and Tissue Bank. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
