Gerald Milo
Avery
March 19, 1932 – September 2, 2023
Gerald Milo Avery, age 91, of St. Louis Park, MN, passed away on September 2, 2023. Jerry was born on March 19, 1932, to Floyd and Daisy Avery in Brady, Nebraska. After a childhood filled with many moves and 21 schools in 20 cities, Jerry joined the Navy in 1949 as a Seabee (Construction Battalion - the job he wanted) and an MP (Military Police). After being honorably discharged, he bought his first car, started out across the nation, and quickly met the woman who would forever be the shining jewel of his life - Ruby. They married on December 14th, 1953. Jerry and Ruby went on to have three daughters.
The most significant event in Jerry's life was when he decided to trust Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord in 1956. For the rest of his earthly life, Jerry strived to emulate Jesus in all things, modeling kindness, compassion, generosity, and leaving a legacy of faith for generations.
Jerry had an extraordinary career at Prudential where over his 38-years, he went from an entry-level position as an IBM machine operator, being promoted throughout the years to supervisor and program analyst. In 1992, Jerry retired and spent his time volunteering, working part-time jobs, serving in his local church, and being a doting husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Roberts; his beloved wife, Ruby; and two of his sons-in-law, James Mickelson and Michael Jones. He is survived by his daughters, Debra Mickelson, Dawn (Harold) Ferguson, and Darla Jones; grandchildren, Rob (Sarah) Mickelson, Anne Mickelson; four great-grandchildren, Julia Faye, Penelope Milo, Allan James, and Miriam Mae Mickelson.
