Holland, Earl J. age 91, of Anoka, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and son at his side on May 4, 2015 after a long battle with bladder cancer and COPD. Earl was a Maintenance Specialist for the Anoka-Hennepin School District #11 for 29 years. After retirement he worked at Peterson Pinney, Inc. to "keep busy". He enjoyed time at the cabin, fishing and being with family and friends, and was a longtime member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church previously singing in the choir and ushering, and was a former Scoutmaster Troop #204. He was a member of Son's of Norway and kept close contact with relatives here and in the Stavanger/ Karmoy, Norway area. He spoke often of the 6 weeks he and his parents spent with relatives in Norway in 1972 and in 1999 when 18 family members from MT, NE, ND, SD and MN went to Helgoy Island, northwest of Stavanger to help their Tante Elise celebrate her 85th birthday. Family reunions continue in South Dakota. Preceded in death by daughter, Randi; parents, Haagen and Glendora Holland; and sister, Laura Stokke. Earl is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Alice; son, David; granddaughter, Alyssa; sisters, Una Tvinnereim, Hazel Spence, and Janice (Brian) Berkner; many nieces and nephews; other relatives, and many, many friends. Funeral service Monday 11 AM at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 700 Western St., Anoka. Visitation 1 hour prior to services at the church only. Memorials preferred to Mt. Olive Building Fund, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or to donor's choice. The family wishes to give special thanks to Mercy Hospital and the Allina Health Hospice team of Cindy, Therese, Monica, and others, for their loving support and excellent care they gave to Earl and his family.
