Swenson, Duane Maurice "Dude" age 86 of Anoka was born on September 26th, 1933 in Proctor, MN and was reunited with his late wife, Barb, on December 27th, 2019. Duane is survived by his children, Jeff (Pat), Mike (Brooke), Valerie (Craig), Vicki (Jim) and his daughter-in-law, Julie. He had 11 grandchildren, Jessie (Tim), Jill (Colin), Mitch, Cara (Kyle), Maddie (Easton), Joey, Jaren, Cory, Jamie, Skylar and Josie. He was also blessed with 8 great-greandchildren and his brother, Paul Swenson. Duane is proceeded in death by his wife, Barb; his son, Scott and brother, Don. Duane had a fantastic career as the WECEP coordinator in the Anoka Hennepin School District, where he taught for over 30 years. He also taught in Mora, Minnesota and Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Duane had a passion for fishing, especially with his sons and good friends, Howard and Ray. He also had a love for dogs. Pirate was his buddy who went everywhere with him. Duane would also try to make every sporting event and activity his kids and grandkids were in. He had a passion for traveling whenever possible. Duane was funny, he was kind, and he loved his family. Although his disease took a toll in his last months, he will not be remembered for the way he passed, rather he will be remembered for the way he lived. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday (12/31/2019) at 11 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay St. NW, Andover. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude towards the staff and amazing nurses at Unity's Dementia and Geriatric Floor (3E) and to Walker Methodist Assisted Living in Anoka. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Unity Geriatric Mental Health Floor at Unity Hospital and LBDA (Lewy Body Dementia Association).
