Obituary

Layton, Donald George Age 88, of Coon Rapids, formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on June 2, 2012. Preceded in death by his wife, Germaine; parents, Helen and Emil Stumm; and siblings, Bob and Patricia. Survived by daughters, Jeanne (DuWayne) Mattson, Joan (Randy) Bowsher, Ann Layton (Kel Kobernick), and Elizabeth (Joel) Peterson; grandchildren, Matt (Camille) Mattson, Mitch (Jess) Mattson, Nick Bowsher (Leah Steinle), Mike (Paige) Bowsher, Katie Genadek (Erin Austin), Jack Genadek, Stephanie Peterson (Chris Hoermann), and Tom Peterson; great- grandson, Max Mattson; and loving companion, Dorothy Talbot. Donald was born in Jamestown, ND, grew up in Dilworth, served in the US Navy during WWII, attended Moorhead State College and graduated with a Master's Degree from the University of ND. He taught and coached many students at Melrose High School. After a 32 year career, he spent the next 13 years fishing on Maple Lake and skiing in Vail, CO. The last 15 years were spent in Coon Rapids fishing on Crooked Lake and enjoying his grandchildren's many activities. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, 11 AM at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson St., Anoka. Visitation Wednesday, 6-8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Thurston- Lindberg Funeral Home, West Main St. & Branch Ave., Anoka. Private interment Ft. Snelling Cemetery.
