Obituary

Donald Kerry Goar, age 81 of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, May 18, 2020 at home in Champlin.

Don was born August 22, 1938 in Louisiana and later adopted by James and Agnes Goar.  He was a proud upholster for over 60 years, only quitting at 81 years old when he got sick.  He loved what he did.  Don taught all of his kids valuable skills and ideas; how to pound nails, cut wood or fabric, and making sure to measure correctly.  He always had a tape measure on him just in case someone needed a measurement.  Don believed in doing a job well and did just that, even when he was simply working to provide for his family.  He always took the time to teach each one of us.

Through the years, Don has enjoyed racing, whether it be drag racing, quarter-midgets, or go-karts.  Spending time at the track with his children, grandchildren, and friends was something he looked forward to every season.   No matter where he was at the track, everyone could find him because of his cowboy hat  He was never without it.

In the past few years, Don developed a joy for designing and building trellis's and landscape for his model train collection.  He looked like a little kid every time he got a new detail in place and would proudly show it off.

Don loved taking scenic road trips looking for eagles and hawks with his best friend and wife, Laurie.  They would talk about the life they lived and the kids they raised.  Nothing made Don more proud than Laurie, the kids, and all they accomplished.  Even in the end, he worried about everyone else.

One of his sons, David, once said "as I look around I see you everywhere in my life."  This holds true for all his children.

Don is survived by his wife, Laurie; children, Holly Quarry (Jeff), Joshua (Amanda) Goar, Ross (Yeng) Callahan, Matthew (Jennifer) Goar, Alicia (Shane) Jestus-Jensen, David (Sarah) Goar, Michael (Bethany) Goar; also Jeff Goar and Liana (KenSan) Shimizu; and 19 wonderful grandchildren that he loved so much.

The Goar family wishes to thank the entire staff of Heartland Hospice for their loving care!

A Private Interment will take place in Champlin Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home of Anoka (763) 421-0220
