Obituary

Dolores M. "Dody" Schanhaar, age 93 of Anoka, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at The Homestead of Anoka.

Dody was born in Dayton, Ohio, attended the University of Dayton and graduated from Bowling Green University in 1950.  Dody met her husband in California and moved to Anoka in 1954 after marrying.  She immersed herself into the community getting involved in civic & social activities and making many life-long friends.  Dody & Dick owned and operated Tasty Food Shop Bakery in Anoka, a family-run bakery for 45 years.  She also taught 8 th grade at St. Stephen's School for 20 years.  She loved teaching; she truly enjoyed her students and her wonderful colleagues at the school.  Dody was a long-time member and past President of the Anoka American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered at the ACDC food shelf for many years, serving on the board and as President.  She loved her grandchildren dearly and had a close relationship with all of them.  She will be missed for her great sense of humor and fun personality.

In addition to her parents, Paul and Marie (Meyers) Degler, Dody was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick); and brothers, Donald and Gerald.  She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Judi) and Michael (Terri); daughter, Michele (Kirk) Schnitker; grandchildren, Kyle (Jackie) Boie, Kristin (Erik) Wendlandt, Sam (Tony) Martinson, Clayton Schnitker and Evan (Diane) Schnitker; great-grandchildren, Addison Boie, Niklaas and Eliza Wendlandt, and Will Martinson; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Don) Roberts and Mary Degler; nieces, nephews, and many great friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street, Anoka.  There will be no visitation prior to Mass.  Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Anoka.

Per CDC guidelines, social distancing and the use of masks are required.

Memorials are preferred to the Anoka Legion Auxiliary, ACBC Food Shelf, and St. Stephen's School Scholarship fund.
