Della V. Borders, age 94 of New Hope, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the St. Therese Residence in New Hope.

Della was born November 2, 1922 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Roy and Goldie Schmelzer. She was a stay-at-home Mom who took good care of her children. As her family grew, Della loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to talk about them with others. She enjoyed baking, cooking, making rag rugs, as well as glazing and painting pottery. Della also enjoyed music, especially singing for residents at the nursing home. Although small in stature, Della had a large personality with lots of spunk!

Della was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Borders; and brother, Bud Schmelzer. She is survived by her children, Livonia Weiden (Gary), Joe Borders, Gary Borders, Keith Borders, and Renee DeGreef (Jeff); grandchildren, Melissa Erickson, John Erickson, Tina Erickson, Nicole Stimac, Eric Borders, Jesse Borders, and Darren Borders; great-grandchildren, Tana Franklin, Riley Stimac, and Jack Stimac; brother, Marvin Schmelzer; also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street, Anoka.  Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church (9:00 - 10:00 a.m.) Interment Calvary Cemetery.
