Obituary

Darlene Pearl Behnke-Nelson (née Nelson), devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, surrounded by her family. She is lovingly reunited with her first husband, Richard Harold Behnke.


Born to Velma Ruth and Wallace William Nelson, Darlene lived a life guided by faith, family, and service. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Richard; her son, Dale Richard; and her brothers, Wallace and James Nelson.


Darlene's life and love will be deeply missed by her husband, Robert Nels Nelson; her children, Dennis (Sharon) Behnke, Debra Quigley, Dianna Weidenaar, David (Sheila) Behnke, and Denise Behnke; as well as her stepchildren, Paul Nelson, Mary (Brandon) Esler, and Linda (Brian) Melius. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to her days.


She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Stenglein and Kathleen Soutar, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.


Darlene will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the steadfast love she gave to her family. Her dedication extended beyond her home, through her years of volunteer work with Support the Troops MN and a long standing member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Post 622, in Saint Francis, MN. Her service and compassion touched many lives and will remain her lasting legacy.


Services to honor and celebrate Darlene's life will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Nowthen, with a luncheon at the American Legion in Saint Francis.
