Catherine “Kay” Funk, age 93, passed away on February 23, 2026, surrounded by love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom and two of her cherished children; Danny and Joan. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Dorothy), William (Barb), James, (Deb), Joseph (Steph) and her daughter Linda as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kay was born into a family of seven children and grew up in Villa Park, Illinois. She met and married her husband Tom and moved up to Anoka, MN where she built a lively, loving home. She raised 7 children with steady patience, calm strength and a deep devotion to her faith and family. To those who knew her best, Kay was truly ahead of her time. She was an early “health influencer” swapping out carob for chocolate and unsuccessfully introducing tofu to the evening meals. She also loved to move and encouraged her children to do so as well. She was a water skier, swimmer, cross country skier and a daily walker long before it was popular. It was her way of “nudging” us to be thoughtful about choices. It was her gift for teaching simply by living her values.
Kay also loved to experience all this world has to offer. She brought her children to concerts and shows opening their minds to music, art and the wider world. She loved to travel and took many trips often with Father Mike and her many friends from St Stephen’s parish. She loved St Stephens and was a faithful member for over 50 years.
Kay was happiest out of doors in the fresh air. Trees, flowers, mushrooms, water, wind all brought her calm and peace. She reveled in the simple beauty of day. Above all, Kay deeply loved her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her family loved her back fiercely. Her spirit will linger and be carefully carried forward in the many lives she shaped with her kindness, curiosity and quiet courage. She will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
There will be a mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 11 am at St Stephen’s Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street, Anoka. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Kay’s family would like to express our gratitude to all who have offered support during her final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing your time, talent or treasure to your favorite charity. Kay was the consummate volunteer. It would bring a smile.
