Obituary

Sorteberg, Carolyn Yvonne age 90 passed away at home in Anoka, MN on March 22, 2022 after a long illness. She was born July 19, 1931, the eldest daughter of Alfred & Bernadine Tyler. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Delores (Bob) Peters and very recently by her son Gregory Sorteberg. She is survived by her brother George (Judy) Tyler and her husband of 70 years Richard Peter Sorteberg, along with her six remaining children Corrin Sorteberg, LeAnn (Frank) Simpson, Scott Sorteberg, Peter (Lisa) Sorteberg, Karen Sorteberg, and Paul (Kris) Sorteberg. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Christine, Andy, Ashley, Matt, Jake, Emma, Tricia, and Alex; and four great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ben, Kennedy, and Linden. Carolyn attended high school at the Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, MN, graduating in 1949. She attended the College of St. Benedict's, in St. Joseph, MN, and later worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Minneapolis. While living in Anoka, she met her future husband Richard when he was home on leave while serving in the USAF in Riverside, CA. They were married in 1952 and that's when their busy lives of raising seven children began. She taught primary grades for many years at St. Stephen's Catholic School in Anoka and had wonderful memories of many students. When she finally retired from teaching, Carolyn and Richard, bought a small hobby farm outside of Verndale, MN. In 1993, they literally sold the farm and down-sized their lives by becoming full-time RVers for the next 10 years. They traveled all over the U.S. but finally came back to Anoka again in 2003. Somewhere along the way, Carolyn took up the hobby of quilting that soon became an obsession throughout the remainder of her life. She made hundreds of beautiful, colorful quilts that she gifted to family and friends alike. Carolyn was known to have many cherished friends and neighbors that enjoyed her loyalty and good conversations. She cared deeply for her many nieces and nephews. She loved cats, a good glass of wine, lots of laughter, and her strong Catholic faith. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 10:30 am with visitation beginning at 9:30 am at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street, Anoka. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Anoka.
