February 1, 1921 – January 13, 2018
Carol was born to Leslie and Clara Raff in Chicago on February 1, 1921, joining older sister Inez. The family soon moved to a farm outside of Fertile, Minnesota, where Carol, Inez and their younger sisters Frances and Mary Alice spent their growing-up years. Carol graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College with degrees in English and math, which she proceeded to teach throughout her working life.
Carol and Fred Coughlin had two children, Douglas and Bonnie. With Fred in the Air Force, they lived in many cities around the country, as well as in Germany for a couple of years. Carol later also lived in Anoka, Minnesota, with husband Ernest Pletan, and Gaithersburg, Maryland, with husband Henry Stevenson, ultimately returning to Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Wherever Carol lived, she was a dynamic member of her church and served in many capacities through the years. She had been a member of Faith Lutheran since the 1970s. Carol had a particular gift for bringing people together at church, school and in all other aspects of her full and active life
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her three sisters, her son, and her three husbands.
