At age 94, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on January
23, 2020; she was a lifelong resident of Anoka. She was preceded in death by husband Lennie,
the love of her life, by her father and mother, G.J. Hastings and Cora Sours Hastings, and by her
brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Margaret (Paquette) Hastings. She is survived by her four
children , Doug (Catherine), Greg (Kim), Gary (Bev), and Cory McArdle Vail and by her eight
grandchildren, Joel Dehn (Anna), Ellie Dehn, Elise Georgeson (Vince), Aaron Dehn (Jessica), Jeff
Dehn (Emily), Ryan Dehn (Lacie), Nicole McArdle, and Chris McArdle (Christine). She is also
survived by eleven great grandchildren, Arabella, Leo, Evelyn, Simone, Aksel, Johann, Lorelei,
Madi, Zoey, Lillian and Brice.
After graduating from Anoka High School in 1943, Bev attended Minnesota School of Business
Secretarial College and became a private secretary for a large company in Minneapolis. After
WWll she met Lennie at a local area dance. They were married on June 24th, 1948. They had
four children in five years, but Bev found time to help organize the new Mercy Hospital
Auxiliary and be active in the American Legion Auxiliary. Bev always put family first, taking great
interest in her kids' many sporting events and activities. She also took great pride in her
grandchildren's hobbies and interests.
Bev was an excellent pianist, having attended MacPhail Center for Music for four years during
high school, and loved playing when she could find the time. Bev also enjoyed entertaining and
cooking for family and friends. She was known for putting on some memorable family holiday
festivities. She will be long remembered for her generous nature and kind and loving ways. Bev
was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother that any family could ever
be lucky enough to have. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
