Bertil Merland Dahlman was born on April 12, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN to Thor Bjorn and Ida Caroline (Johnson) Dahlman. Bert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Eunice "Arlene" Singer on Dec. 28, 1946. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in art education from the University of Minnesota, and completed coursework for the Ph.D. at Penn State University. They loved to spend time with family, spend time in the outdoors, travel, play cards, and attend concerts, plays and sporting events. In addition to being a beloved art teacher, Bert was known for being a warm, outgoing person with a self-deprecating sense of humor. After retiring from teaching, Bert operated Dahlman Sign Company, after which he and Arlene served in the Peace Corps in Jamaica, wintered near Harlingen, TX, and traveled widely.

In addition to his parents, Thor and Ida Dahlman, Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his sisters, Eleanor Katzian, Arlene Mix, and Beatrice Mahoney; and brothers, Russell, Reuben, Clark, and Eugene. He is survived by children, Richard (Terry), Stuart (Cindy), and Jana (Brad) Bouma; grandchildren, Sean, Hilary, Heather (Anthony) Wendling, Nichole (Patrick) Chase, Stephanie (Jeff) Rowland-Danovi, Matthew (Colleen), and Chandra Bouma; great-grandchildren, Sam and Liam McCarthy, Mason, and Addison Dahlman, Kayla (Anders) Deel, Lauren, Isabel, Piper, and Gabriel Wendling, Collin and Elliot Dahlman, Giana, Reesa, and Gentry Chase, Matthew, Samantha, and Tyler "T.J."
