Bernice Irene (Hietala) Dornbusch, age 85 of Oak Grove, MN passed away on April 23, 2022 after a six-month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida Hietala; husband, Elmer Dornbusch; brothers, Virgil and Donald Hietala and sister, Betty Jean Kiminki. She is survived by her daughters, Tami (Dennis) May, Sandra Close and Gail Dornbusch (Dale Ogdahl); grandchildren, Brenden (Jenna) May, Nicole (Ryan) Jurek, Katelynn Ogdahl, Camelia Close, Austin Close, Nathan Close and Cody Close; 4 great-grandchildren, Ella May, Sutton Jurek, Gracie May and Blake Jurek; sister, Judy (Jack) Loeffen along with many other loving family and friends. Born February 18th, 1937. Bernice grew up on a dairy farm in New York Mills, Mn. There she also met her husband, Elmer Dornbusch. They moved to North Minneapolis where they had three daughters. Later moving to Oak Grove in 1972. Bernice had a passion for gardening, whether it was flowers or vegetables, which she took pride in canning and lining her shelves with canned goods . Bernice worked for RL Gould's as an accounts receivable, then at Honeywell for 19 years and even after retirement she went to work at Northland Screw Products. Bernice loved to go boating and fishing. She also enjoyed to traveling and visited many places with family, friends and her late partner Gene Yank. She visited Germany , Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, she took cruises off the East Coast and Caribbean. Traveled to California, Colorado , Washington DC. She was know to never wear "grandma" clothes, she always dressed in style . She kept young by staying active , she enjoyed trips to a casino occasionally, line dancing with her singles group and at the Y & community center . She took care of her own property, never wanted to ask for help . She enjoyed family get together's and celebrating Birthdays and holidays , always giving out the perfect cards and gifts . Although she was quiet, she shared her pride in her Finnish heritage , and SiSu. Our loving mother, mother in-law, sister, Auntie, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, you will be so greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held on Friday (4/29/2022) visitation from 11 AM- 12 PM service at 12 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 19001 Jackson St NE, East Bethel. Immediately following Bernice will be laid to rest at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery,2200 Swedish Drive. Luncheon will be held at The Refuge Golf Course following.
