Obituary

Barbara "Barb" Lucille (Hibma) Peters, 83, of Andover, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Barb was born in Ocheyedan, Iowa on July 18, 1939, to the late Pierce and Charlotte Hibma.

The first 18 years of her life, Barb spent on the family farm in Harris, Iowa, with her 9 siblings. After graduating from Harris High School in 1957, Barb earned a bachelor's degree in Bible and Christian Education from Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, NB in 1961. While attending Grace she met Wesley "Wes" Howard Peters.  They were married on June 29,1962. Barb and Wes moved to Germany in 1965 where they served together as missionaries until 2001. During this time, they planted churches in Blieskastel, Saarlouis, Koblenz and Trier. During a 9-year period back in Minnesota, Barb hosted many guests at The Pines, a retreat center that she and Wes opened together. Beginning in 2001, having resettled in Minnesota, Barb and Wes continued to travel to Germany regularly, mentoring and encouraging young German pastors, especially in East Germany and in Berlin. For the last 20 years of her career, Barb she worked in various positions at Constance Free Church, including Deposit Clerk and Missionary Care Specialist.

Barb was known for her warmth and generosity.  She was a gifted writer and published several journal articles.  She also loved to read, play the piano and flute as well as enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.  She was always ready to spend time over a cup of coffee or shopping for a bargain with a friend or family member. It was important to her to keep in touch with her siblings, daughters, grandchildren, and the many friends scattered around the globe. So, she learned how to use the latest technology in order to be able to do so.

Above all, Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She and Wes celebrated 60 years of marriage this year and she lovingly served him until the last moment.  Together they were blessed with five children, 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Barb is preceded in death by her parents, her son Ivan and grandson Jeremy.

She is survived by her husband, Wes; daughters, Denise (James) Scott, Janet (Eric) Crane, Heidi (Eric Berg) Ames-Berg, Andrea (Chris) Price; grandchildren, Stephanie, Andreas, Jasmine, Christopher, Micah, Emily, Nicolas, Nicole, Marie, Michelle, Nadia, Caitlin, Coye, Farrah, Kendra, Sierra, Ember, Levi and Lilly and great-grandchildren, Dieter, Ruby, Imogen, Otto, Fred, Sofie, Hal, Joanna, Elliot and Hazel.
