Obituary

Johnson, Anna Mae T. age 91 of Anoka ,passed away on June 4, 2025. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard; siblings, Rosemary, Dick, Don; granddaughter, Bobbie Jo; great-grandson, Dakotah. Survived by her children, Rick (Cynthia), Patty (Jim) Kappelhoff, Debbie Welte; Bob, Jeff (Kim); 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Anna Mae was born in Albertville MN, and at the age of 10, the family moved to North Minneapolis. She lived there until she met the love of her life while working at FMC and was married in 1953 to Richard (Dick) Johnson. Shortly thereafter, they bought a home in Anoka MN and started a family. Anna Mae chose to be a stay-at-home mom for the next 18 years to raise her children. In 1971 she began working for Anoka Hennepin
School District 11. Her first position was working as an aid to support children with Downs Syndrome. Later, she accepted a position at Lincoln Elementary School as a health aid. After working for 22 years, she retired. Just as the two of them followed their own children in extracurricular activities, they continued to frequently attend the events of their grandchildren, and later great grandchildren. Anna Mae also began enjoying
vacations and travel with her husband, relatives and friends.

Annie was dearly loved by family and friends sharing memorable moments of happiness, laughter and joy of life. In September of 2024, Mom became a resident of Edgemont Memory Care located in Blaine where she remained to the end of her life.

We are thankful for the caregivers and support staff at Edgemont Place. While there, her gift of giving of herself to others remained part of who she was. She enjoyed participating in daily activities and socializing with friends she made during her stay. Staff treated her with tenderness, love and kindness. They made regular visits to her room, not only to meet her necessary daily needs with the utmost dignity, but to talk or just give her a hug. They were blessed by her smile or a chuckle during their time together. When mom required more assistance, she entered hospice provided by Ecumen Care. They kept Mom comfortable the last 5 months of her life and we are very appreciative of the loving care mom received. Thank you to all staff at Edgemont Place and to Ecumen Hospice Care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 10 AM – 2 PM with a time of remembrance at 10:30 AM at Mississippi Crossing, 307 E. River Pkwy, Champlin, MN 55316.
